Airport to Close One Runway Two Weeks
for Airfield Maintenance
Project to Enhance Safety and Runway Efficiency

SAN JOSE, CA – Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) will close Runway 30 Left for two weeks, beginning May 19, 2008, to allow work crews to install additional airfield signage and lighting. This project will improve safety and increase efficiency for aircraft using the airport.

As a result of the closure, Runway 30 Right will be used for both arrivals and departures at San José. The runway maintenance work will not affect regular operations, safety, or schedules of commercial air service. The FAA air traffic control system will coordinate landings and take-offs to maintain scheduled operations as it has done in the past when a runway is out of service.

During the maintenance period, southern approaches to the airport, generally over the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 85, will shift approximately one mile to the east of the normal flight path. Residents in South San José may notice an increase in aircraft operations over their communities. Closer to the airport, aircraft approaches will shift approximately 600 to 1000 feet to the east, which residents in nearby neighborhoods may notice.

The runway is scheduled to reopen June 3, 2008, provided there are no delays due to weather or other factors. Once reopened, Runway 30 Left will return to service as the primary runway for arrivals and Runway 30 Right as the primary runway for departures.
